There’s a difference between an eager beaver and a psychotic partner. An eager beaver calls you once and leaves all their phone numbers and email addresses so you can find them when you get the urge to reach out. A wacko calls all of your numbers and sends messages to all of your email addresses — all day and every day.

And the more time that passes between live interaction with a psycho, the more nutsy the notes and messages become. "Hey, it’s me" morphs into "I’ve called 12 times…where are you?" and finally "Pick up the phone or I swear I’m gonna boil the bunny."

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire
The fibs seem harmless at first; they may even be confused or couched as miscommunications.

But psycho partners lie incessantly in an attempt to control you. So what starts as lies about small things, like liver also being his favorite food (so that it looks like you two are so similar you must be soul mates) escalates into elaborate fabrications about him needing your emotional support because he’s just discovered that he has an identical twin brother whose cancerous liver will self-implode without a transfusion of your lover’s genetically matched blood.

Beware the contradictions, the overabundance of justifying details, the well-timed dramas.

Predicting the death of a patient, even an elderly, demented one, is an inexact science, even for a doctor with decades of medical experience.

But a cat in a Providence, R.I., nursing home, an animal shelter refugee named Oscar, seems to have a sixth sense about when residents in the home's advanced dementia unit are about to pass away. And his actions can sometimes
help alert the staff to notify family members in time for them to get to the nursing home to tell their loved ones goodbye.

Three animal behavior experts say the explanation about Oscar sensing a smell associated with dying is a plausible one.

"I suspect he is smelling some chemical released just before dying," says Margie Scherk, DVM, president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, an organization devoted to improving the health and well-being of cats, and a veterinarian in Vancouver, British Columbia. "Cats can smell a lot of things we can't," she says. "And cats can certainly detect
illness."

"Cats have a superb sense of smell," adds Jill Goldman, PhD, a certified applied animal behaviorist in Laguna Beach, Calif. In Oscar's case, she says, keeping a dying resident company may also be learned behavior. "There has been ample opportunity for him to make an association between 'that' smell [and death]," she says.

While the sense of smell may be one explanation, there could be another, says Daniel Estep, PhD, a certified applied animal behaviorist in Littleton, Colo. "One of the things that happen with people who are dying is that they are not moving around much. Maybe the cat is picking up on the fact that the person on the bed is very quiet. It may not be smell or sounds, but just the lack of movement."

jack the ripper大概是史上最神秘，最有有传奇色彩的连环杀手了。
就時間而言，「開膛手傑克」並不是史上第一個連環殺手，在他出現之前已經有連續殺人犯存在過，但自从有了「開膛手傑克」，连环杀手这个名词才开始真正在世界范围内流行起来。他殘忍的虐殺方法令當時的倫敦陷入一片恐慌之中，人人都懼怕他的名號。其實他的犯案時期並不長，只有短短的 3 個月，但他所帶來的震撼卻相反一直影響後世的人，除了因為他殺了 5 名妓女，手法一次比一次殘忍外（「開膛手」並非只是虛銜，第 4 名死者就是被剖開身體，發現時腸臟都掛在肩膊上，最後一名更是面目全非，面孔被剁得再無法辨認，身體器官有些不見了，有些則四散在案發現場），更重要是他曾多次親筆寫信到警署公然挑戰警方，甚至送上死者的耳朵、腎臟和兇刀，警方卻一直捉不到他，可見他的膽量不輕。為他再添傳奇性的是他在第 5 宗案件後，忽然像人間蒸發般消失，從此再沒出現。一百年来，关于杰克的真实身份一直都是个迷，也许这个迷永远也不会有人能解开了。

1 维多利亚女王的外孙，王子Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence - and heir to the British throne - went on a killing spree after he was maddened by syphilis.

3 疯狂的俄国人。 Supposedly Rasputin himself wrote a book called Great Russian Criminals in which he claimed that Jack the Ripper was actually a Russian doctor named Pedachenk, who was dispatched to London by the tsarist police in an effort to create consternation in England and embarrass the British authorities.
4黑巫师。The Ripper was actually Dr. Roslyn D'Onston Stephenson, a self-styled conjurer obsessed with the occult, who supposedly committed the East End murders as part of a satanic ritual.
5犹太籍屠夫. A shochet, or Kosher butcher, decided to use his carving skills on women of the night.
6“开膛手”家庭主妇. The homicidal maniac was not a man at all but a demented London midwife.
7神秘的房客. An unnamed boarder in London roominghouse acted suspiciously at the time of the Ripper murders and might have been the East End fiend. Although the vaguest of the Ripper solutions, this theory has distinguished itself as the basis for four entertaining movies, including an early Hitchcock thriller.
8致命的医生. A man named Dr. Stanley committed the murders as an act of revenge, after his son contracted syphilis from a prostitute.
9危险的律师. A failed attorney named Montague John Druit committed the Ripper crimes, then drowned himself in the Thames.
10波兰籍投毒者. A multiple murderer named Severin Klosowski (aka George Chapman), who poisoned three of his wives, presumably committed the Whitechapel slayings out of his pathological hatred of womankind in general.
11神经病棉花商. A diary that surfaced in the early 1990s "revealed" that the Ripper was a drug-addicted businessman named James Maybrick. Unfortunately, the diary was declared a hoax by renowned document experts.
