Communication Overload
There’s a difference between an eager beaver and a psychotic partner. An eager beaver calls you once and leaves all their phone numbers and email addresses so you can find them when you get the urge to reach out. A wacko calls all of your numbers and sends messages to all of your email addresses — all day and every day.

And the more time that passes between live interaction with a psycho, the more nutsy the notes and messages become. "Hey, it’s me" morphs into "I’ve called 12 times…where are you?" and finally "Pick up the phone or I swear I’m gonna boil the bunny."

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire
The fibs seem harmless at first; they may even be confused or couched as miscommunications.

But psycho partners lie incessantly in an attempt to control you. So what starts as lies about small things, like liver also being his favorite food (so that it looks like you two are so similar you must be soul mates) escalates into elaborate fabrications about him needing your emotional support because he’s just discovered that he has an identical twin brother whose cancerous liver will self-implode without a transfusion of your lover’s genetically matched blood.

Beware the contradictions, the overabundance of justifying details, the well-timed dramas.

Stalk Talk
Don’t be fooled by the cliché image of a trenchcoat-clad dude running from telephone pole to telephone pole as he follows his victim home from the bar. Stalking girlfriends and boyfriends come in all shapes and sizes (and outfits).

Predicting the death of a patient, even an elderly, demented one, is an inexact science, even for a doctor with decades of medical experience.

But a cat in a Providence, R.I., nursing home, an animal shelter refugee named Oscar, seems to have a sixth sense about when residents in the home's advanced dementia unit are about to pass away. And his actions can sometimes
help alert the staff to notify family members in time for them to get to the nursing home to tell their loved ones goodbye.

Three animal behavior experts say the explanation about Oscar sensing a smell associated with dying is a plausible one.

"I suspect he is smelling some chemical released just before dying," says Margie Scherk, DVM, president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, an organization devoted to improving the health and well-being of cats, and a veterinarian in Vancouver, British Columbia. "Cats can smell a lot of things we can't," she says. "And cats can certainly detect
illness."

"Cats have a superb sense of smell," adds Jill Goldman, PhD, a certified applied animal behaviorist in Laguna Beach, Calif. In Oscar's case, she says, keeping a dying resident company may also be learned behavior. "There has been ample opportunity for him to make an association between 'that' smell [and death]," she says.

While the sense of smell may be one explanation, there could be another, says Daniel Estep, PhD, a certified applied animal behaviorist in Littleton, Colo. "One of the things that happen with people who are dying is that they are not moving around much. Maybe the cat is picking up on the fact that the person on the bed is very quiet. It may not be smell or sounds, but just the lack of movement."

100. Apostle of Hustle - Sleepwalking Ballad
Another BSS-affiliated pleasure. The build-up of this piece is intensely wonderful.

099. Goddamn Electric Bill - Looking Up at Down
Flamenco-inspired guitars slowly dissolve into dissonant, reverb-rich chords, and the beauty is laid beneath like a red carpet for you to rejoice and dance upon.

098. Larsen - C
Ahh, welcome to my dark side. This song commands such a huge, dark, deep, yet satisfying, presence. Disturbingly hypnotic, you'll completely lose yourself if you allow the song to attach itself to you. Guitar, bass, accordian, xylophone, violin, drums, keyboards, and murmurs, each slowly layered upon the next into one giant snowball of destruction. If you've ever played Katamari Damacy, you'll get a nice visual of how this thing builds. Gorgeous.

097. pg.lost - Yes I Am
This is the shit. Translucent, shimmering guitars swamp you in an orgy of pedal effects, the rug being swept from underneath your feet at 3:48 with a veritable crescendo for the ages. Welcome to the best of what's around.

096. Matthew Good - While We Were Hunting Rabbits
Because I'm not big on lyrics, I'm also not bent over on vocals much, but some artists have some amazing chords that I can't help but fall in love with. Matthew Good is one of those rare people who can carry a song alone on his vocals. What helps is a very melodic, very catchy beat to spar along with his voice. By all means, this is a very weird song, with a cheering crowd as background noise during the slower parts and a two-minute, classical denouement. But it's all somehow pulled off in a way that'll keep you playing this song over and over again. Vive le Toronto!

095. Stars - What the Snowman Learned About Love
After the band introduces itself, we get a lush waterfall of sound, and finally it lulls into a dreamy, somber, hypnotic melody that'll melt your heart like a snowman making s'mores 'round a campfire (hey, I like playing with the titles and making analogies, so sue me). And just when you think you've fallen under a spell, the percussion goes off at 4:10 and elevates your high a few notches. Vive la Montreal!

094. Zookeeper - Two-Part Invention
Now that The Smashing Pumpkins are getting back together, and barring a Godspeed You! Black Emperor reunion, the official best defunct band in my eyes will always be The Gloria Record. Therefore, you can bet any follow-up projects by any of its members will be vigorously tracked down by yours truly. That being said, Chris Simpson, former vocalist for both TGR and Mineral, has the most amazing ability to weave his voice around instrumentation like a vine wrapping its way up a tree. And like that tree, you'll feel cocooned by the warmth and comfort of his unique vocal tendencies. Now comes his latest project, Zookeeper, which is a stripped-down version of his high guitar, high synth ways of yore, yet retains that focus on surreal melodies. This is a folkier release that will enchant you in ways you can't imagine.

093. The Church - Telepath
One of my top songs of last year, these fossil Aussies really know how to play from the top shelf. It almost feels like this song is shrouded in a blanket of space. The aural blast at the 3:30 mark is only accented by the dueling guitars, making for quite the sonic wetdream.

092. Sunny Day Real Estate - Faces In Disguise
Sitars alive and kicking, this is a crafty song of massive proportions.

091. Yndi Halda - We Flood Empty Lakes
Realistically, I could have chosen any song off this EP, as all three are absolutely beautiful. This one begins with swelling violins, expands like a blooming, triumphant Redwood, and culminates into a lush onslaught of unrestrained force. If you didn't take the hint earlier, get your hands on the full album now.

090. Airiel - Cinnamon
Shoegaze, perfected. Beginning at 2:36, and again at 4:33...

Laptops tend to lose their charm quickly when you’re constantly looking for the nearest power outlet to charge up.  How do you keep your battery going for as long as possible?  Here are 15 easy ways to do so.

1. Defrag regularly -  The faster your hard drive does its work - less demand you are going to put on the hard drive and your battery.  Make your hard drive as efficient as possible by defragging it regularly. (but not while it’s on battery of course!) Mac OSX is better built to handle fragmentation so it may not be very applicable for Apple systems.

2. Dim your screen - Most laptops come with the ability to dim your laptop screen.  Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance.  Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.

3. Cut down on programs running in the background.  Itunes, Desktop Search, etc.  All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life.  Shut down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.

4. Cut down external devices - USB devices (including your mouse) & WiFi drain down your laptop battery.  Remove or shut them down when not in use.  It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your laptop battery.

5. Add more RAM - This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory.  Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most...

Bill Gates, operating through his Cascade Investment arm, is among the investors participating in the $26.2 million funding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender online community PlanetOut.

PlanetOut, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker LGBT and also operates the Web site Gay.com, went public at $9 per share in October 2004.

But since that time, the stock has been in free fall. It closed today at $1.59, up 15 percent.

Last year, PlanetOut reported revenue of $68.6 million --up 93 percent over 2005. But it also reported a net loss of $3.7 million last year.

Gates is not really known for investing in money-losing Internet companies, with some of the Microsoft co-founder's bets including companies such as Six Flags, Four Seasons Hotels, Pacific Ethanol and others.

怎样判断你的另一半是不是真正适合你的那个人?怎样维持一段成功的恋爱关系?听听专业心理医生的意见。推荐。

When considering what it takes to make love work, it is useful to look at those who have tried and succeeded as well as those who have tried and failed. Besides observations from my own work, I have included data from The Enrich Couple Inventory, 195 questions developed by David Olson, Ph.D., David Fournier Ph.D., and Joan Druckman, Ph.D., that were administered to 21,501 couples throughout the country. The researchers compared the answers of the happiest couples to those of the most unhappy and found that the differences between their answers to a few key questions tell a lot about what makes love work. If we are willing to be rational about love, we can learn from others' experiences—and perhaps find and maintain a true love even after the initial chemistry fades.

"My partner is a very good listener."

· Percentage of unhappy couples who agree: 18%

· Percentage of happy couples who agree: 83%

"My partner does not understand how I feel."

· Unhappy couples: 79%

· Happy couples: 13%

If you want to feel alone in a relationship, be with someone who hasn't a clue about what you are going through. Or worse, someone who does have a clue but cannot understand why your pain is a big deal. The two of you can be totally different people in a number of ways, but if a partner is sensitive to how you see the world and experience life, then those differences are unimportant.

Ruth, who has been married to Alex for 31 years, puts it this way, "When we got married, nobody thought it would last because we are so different. Alex is from a working-class family; I am Jewish, he is Lutheran—everyone thought it was a non-starter from the wedding day on. But what they didn't know, and what has been the most important thing in our relationship, is that Alex knows how to listen. Really listen. No matter what, he can see how I'm feeling and he can feel for me. Trust me, that solves a lot of problems."

有意思的答案,当你想记住一件事的时候要集中精力忘掉它?

The answer: don't try so hard to control your thoughts! Instead, see if you can't get your secret preoccupation out in the open. Find a confidante to whom you can confess the idea—or perhaps write about it. Probably, says Wegner, you'll get bored of it fairly quickly, and the pesky thought will die away of its own accord.

Or, instead of following the impulse to get rid of it, says Wegner, just go with it. If you have a song in your head, trying to get rid of it is a great way to make sure it comes back. In this paradoxical therapy, you do the opposite of the thing you want to do. And that, he says, is what ends up being the cure.

  • Stretch Your Mind. Don't let your thinking gears get rusty. Mental activity strengthens brain cells and neural connections, and may even give rise to new nerve cells. Engaging in stimulating leisure activities throughout your life can reduce the risk of dementia by about half, according to Australian researchers. Reading, writing, completing crossword puzzles, or even visiting a museum produces positive changes in the hippocampus, part of the brain affected by dementia. Mastering a new language is also beneficial: Among bilinguals, the onset of dementia begins some four years later than it does for monolinguals.

The brain's malleability allows for neural connections to continue to form late in life. Researchers at UC Irvine discovered that short, repeated learning sessions slowed the buildup of a protein in the brain known to lead to plaques and tangles—symptoms of Alzheimer's. The take-away for humans is that it's never too late to begin exercising your mind. Even ordinary activities done in a novel way, such as brushing your teeth with the opposite hand or taking a different route to work can enrich brain cell connections.

  • Keep in Touch. A strong network of family and friends can also lower your risk of dementia. Social activity lessens depression and reduces stress levels, which helps maintain connections among brain cells. Volunteering, joining a club, or traveling can add four years to one's life, according to Harvard researchers. It's no surprise then that lonely individuals, in their later years, may be twice as likely to develop the type of dementia linked to Alzheimer's.
  • Hit That Treadmill. One of the best ways to care for your mind is to keep your heart healthy. Aerobic exercise improves oxygen consumption, which benefits brain functioning. A brisk half hour walk, bicycling, swimming, or dancing each day promotes good blood flow to the brain and stimulates new brain-cell growth. Such activity lowers the risk of dementia and slows cognitive decline in those who already have dementia. Because of the connection between the brain and cardiovascular system, reducing risks of heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes also protects against Alzheimer's disease.
  • Brain Food. Eating an apple a day could keep Alzheimer's away. Apples and apple juice, along with a balanced diet, can protect against cell damage linked to age-related memory loss, according to research from Cornell University and the University of Massachusetts. Fresh apples contain high levels of the antioxidant quercetin; eating at least one a day can help protect brain cells against oxidative stress, a tissue-damaging process associated with Alzheimer's.

Fresh veggies and fish are just as good for your brain as they are for your body. Eating foods rich in folate, along with the use of supplements, may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's, suggests a report in Archives of Neurology. Folate can be found in spinach, dry beans, peas, fortified cereals, grain products, and some fruits and vegetables. And those who eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, trout, and albacore tuna) have higher levels of the fatty acid DHA in their blood, which significantly lowers the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's.
